Assignment

An upholstered-furniture maker who builds every bed to measure and had nothing online but an Instagram grid captioned in hashtags.

Finding

Size, fabric, colour, headboard: nowhere did it say what could be chosen, and the only way to order was a direct message or a call. So made-to-measure work looked like any furniture store's catalogue pictures, and every enquiry arrived without measurements or a fabric idea, starting from zero on the phone.

Measure

The preview upholsters a headboard as you scroll, panel by panel: in “Mbushja”, the pads settle one after another on a bare board marked in chalk, gold piping runs round the edge, then the bed rises in front. A fabric tone of your choice re-covers it and carries over, preselected, into the order request, which asks for type, measurements and fabric; WhatsApp and a call stay within thumb's reach throughout. The drawing is marked as an illustration, and right after it comes the real headboard it was drawn from.
